Material treatments

Some clothes contain materials that are treated with certain chemicals to (positively) influence the properties of the material. We discuss these treatments on this page.

DWR impregnated

DWR stands for "Durable Water Repellent". It is a technology applied to fabrics, such as clothing, backpacks or tents, to ensure that they repel water. A DWR impregnation (also known as DWR coating) does not make the fabric waterproof, but causes water to bead on the surface and roll off instead of soaking into the fabric. For example, in rainwear that is DWR-impregnated, the membrane is less flooded with water, so it retains its breathability. Down can also be treated with a DWR treatment to keep it working a little better in humid conditions. We have a whole blog dedicated to Durable Water Repellent. We recommend you check it out if you want to know more about this technology.

PFC-free DWR impregnation

PFC-free DWR impregnation refers to the same Durable Water Repellent impregnation as described above. The difference lies in the presence of PFC's in the impregnation. The PFC-free DWR impregnation obviously does not have that, making it the better option for the environment. In recent years, more and more PFC-containing DWR impregnations have been replaced with the PFC-free variant, and it is expected that within a few years, the former will become a thing of the past completely.

HeiQ

HeiQ is a Swiss company specialising in the development and production of textile technologies. Some examples include advanced textile finishes that add properties such as antimicrobial action, moisture management, odour resistance and water repellency to fabrics. In our product range, you will find several solutions from HeiQ. We will go through them all.

HeiQ Eco Dry is a collection of eco-friendly, innovative and PFC-free water-repellent textile technologies that offer protection against water and stains. It is a type of DWR.

HeiQ Fresh is a collection of silver-free odour-fighting textile technologies with organic or mineral-based ingredients. HeiQ Fresh products effectively tackle the problem of odours on textiles by adsorbing the smelly molecules. By the latter, we mean the attachment of one substance to the surface of another. HeiQ Mint also fights foul odours. This plant-based "deodoriser" controls the development of unpleasant odours on textiles and ensures that fabrics retain odours for a long time, allowing them to keep smelling fresh all day long. HeiQ Pure is another tool from HeiQ that effectively tackles body odours and bacterial odours on textiles.

MiDori

MiDori bioSoft is a textile softener that gives treated fabrics a natural, smooth and luxurious feel. Unlike most other textile softeners, bioSoft is made from industrial vegetable seed oils, which are not used in the food system. This makes it a highly sustainable fabric treatment.

Schoeller

Schoeller Ecorepel is a PFC-free DWR from Swiss company Schoeller Textiles. On our website, you will find several inventions from this textile company. We discuss all of them on our page dedicated to Schoeller.
