Schoeller is the manufacturer of some high quality fabrics highly sought after by the outdoor world. Founded in Switzerland, the company has managed to build a strong reputation in the textile industry over the years. Schoeller Textiles is known for its innovative approach to textile design and production. They produce fabrics designed to meet the specific requirements of various industries, including sports and outdoor activities, fashion and workwear.
The roots of today's Schoeller Textil AG come from a time of many innovations and innovations. The 1960s saw the establishment of the Swiss Red Cross and work on architectural marvels such as the Gotthard Tunnel. During this particular time, Schoeller was also founded. In 1868, Rudolph Schoeller moved from Breslau to Zurich and founded the first Swiss yarn spinning mill in Schaffhausen with the name "Schoeller & Söhne", the origin of today's Schoeller Textil AG.
Around the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, the company is doing extremely well and buys its textile mill in Sevelen. Technical progress makes numerous automation measures possible. Meanwhile, synthetic fibres such as polyamide or elastane make their entry into Europe via the US. Schoeller catches on to this trend and develops some stretch fabrics. The first stretch ski trousers are marketed by them. They replace the "itchy" wool trousers that were widespread until then.
The company has since grown into a serious player in the textile world. Its range of fabrics is more extensive than ever and the company has also made some great strides in the field of sustainability. In 2001, for example, Schoeller was the first textile company in the world to produce according to the principles of the Bluesign system.
Pine cones open when the outside temperature rises and close again when the temperature drops. Schoeller's c_change membrane works on the same principle. It reacts to ambient conditions in exactly the same way. Not only temperature is taken into account, but also air and body moisture. Because the membrane is made of polyurethane, it is also a sustainable variant. In fact, it is free of PFC's.
At higher temperatures or during sports activities, the polymer structure of the c_change membrane opens in response to the associated moisture build-up. Excess heat and moisture can therefore escape to the outside air. During cold or low activity, on the contrary, the membrane remains closed. As a result of the lower moisture development, the polymer structure contracts and keeps heat close to the body. C_Change thus always ensures an optimal body climate. The membrane adapts to conditions as it is highly breathable and wicks away moisture and excess heat. Moreover, it optimally retains heat when the situation calls for it. As c_change is also wind- and waterproof, it protects the wearer in all weather conditions. In 2009, the C_Change membrane won an IF Design materiaal award.
Ecorepel is a Durabel Water Repellent (DWR) from Schoeller. It is a permanent, odourless treatment that mimics the natural protection mechanism of plants. The DWR treatment spirals in a thin film around the material's individual fibres, reducing their surface tension. This creates the repellent effect that causes water droplets and watery dirt to roll off the textile surface. Breathability is not affected and the textile remains dry and clean.
Ecorepel contains no fluorocarbons and is therefore PFC-free. The technology is bluesign certified, which means it meets strict environmental and health standards. With Ecorepel, products can be made that meet the demands of modern outdoor activities without harming the environment.
Schoeller Naturetec is a combination of soft, natural fibres and functional materials. The resulting softshell fabric is designed for outdoor activities where high freedom of movement and good body temperature are equally important. Schoeller Naturetec is very hard-wearing, has high wearing comfort and is highly breathable, lightweight and wind- and water-resistant.
