The clothes on our website almost always feature all kinds of material characteristics. These should make it easier for you to find the garment you want. However, it is necessary to have a good understanding of what is meant by each of these characteristics. To ensure this, we list all these features and their meaning on this page.
3-in-1 refers either to the 3-in-1 jacket or the 3-in-1 glove. In the case of the jacket, it refers to one insulation jacket (the inner jacket) and one hardshell/rain jacket (the outer jacket). You can pair these two jackets together, resulting in one warm padded jacket. So you have three jackets in one. In the case of the glove, it is one inner and one outer glove, which can be worn separately or together.
Back pocket(s) refers to the pockets at the back of the garment.
Inner pocket(s) refer to the presence of pockets on the inside of the garment. In some cases, this may also refer to a small pocket inside a larger pocket.
The fur collar refers to the collar of (faux) fur of a jacket. Such a collar provides extra warmth in the neck and neck and also has a fashionable function. At Twinseasons, you won't find real fur, by the way.
Chest pocket(s) refer to any pockets at chest level.
Suspenders refer to the (elastic) straps whose purpose is to hold up your pants.
By a hood, of course, we mean the part of a jacket, vest or jumper that protects your neck and head from cold, wind and/or rain. In technical clothing, you will often find a hood that is compatible with a helmet. This means that the hood and the helmet do not interfere with each other. With a hardshell jacket, this often means that the hood can be worn over a helmet, while with vests the hood can then be worn mainly under a helmet. With softshell jackets, this can sometimes vary.
You may come across the term compatible with heating system with insulation jackets and gloves. These products then offer the option to fit a specially made heating system inside, keeping you extra warm.
In trousers made for those who walk and climb in snow and ice, you often come across some kind of crampon protection. This is often in the form of a very hard-wearing and robust material on the bottom and inside of your trouser legs. It protects your trousers from any punctures from your crampons/crampons.
Thigh pocket(s) refer to any pockets at thigh level.
Thumb loops refer to the small openings or loops that may be located at the end of the sleeves of jackets and vests. They are designed to slide over the thumbs. Thumb loops help put on extra layers of clothing over the base layer without the sleeves slipping. They also ensure that the sleeves do not slide up during movements. Thumb loops also help keep the sleeves in place and prevent cold air from entering, keeping your hands and wrists warmer.
The hem refers to the edge at the end of the garment. Its purpose is to finish off the end and make it stronger. In relation to outerwear (jackets, jumpers, shirts), the hem refers specifically to the end of the bottom, at the level of your hip. With gloves, we also refer to a hem. An elastic hem refers to the stretchy version of a hem.
Both ski jackets and ski trousers can have integrated snow catchers. The function is the same for both garments: keeping snow out. With trousers, the snow catcher is at the bottom of the inside of the trouser legs. These often elastic cuffs close closely around your legs and ski boots, preventing snow from getting into your boots. A ski jacket also has the snow catcher on the inside. You can close these around your waist to prevent snow and wind from getting under the jacket.
Some gloves come with a carabiner included. This allows you to easily attach your gloves to your bag or trousers, in case you don't need the gloves temporarily. Some trousers also feature a carabiner. Usually, these trousers are made for the touring skier or freerider and the carabiner is located in one of the trouser pockets. The carabiner is then meant to attach an avalanche transceiver.
Some of our gloves feature a pos strap. These handy straps make sure you won't lose your gloves so easily if you take your gloves off briefly in the ski lift.
A very small part of our range of gloves and insulation jackets feature a heating system. Ideal for the winter athlete who is always cold.

With gloves that are touchscreen compatible, you can easily keep operating your phone with your gloves on.

Ventilation zips refer to zips under the armpit on jackets and zips along the outside or inside of your leg on trousers. Opening these zips provides ventilation and significantly increases the breathability of the garment.
Adjustable trouser legs, thanks to buttons or zips, allow you to easily pull your trousers on and off over your boots or (ski) boots.
In jackets, an adjustable waist refers to the ability (often by means of a drawstring) to make your jacket sit tighter around your waist. We sometimes see this in women's parkas. With trousers, an adjustable waist refers to being able to influence its fit at the level of your waist.
The hem refers to the edge at the end of the garment. Its purpose is to finish off the end and make it stronger. In relation to outerwear (jackets, jumpers, shirts), the hem refers specifically to the end of the bottom, at the level of your hip. With gloves, we also refer to a hem. It is not a given that the zips we find in clothing protect well against water. Zips that do, we refer to as waterproof zips. Water-resistant zips also offer a certain degree of protection against water, but not as completely as waterproof zips. For more information on the difference between these two terms, please refer to our blog on the difference between waterproof and water-resistant.
The term zip-off refers to the possibility of zipping off the lower part of the trouser leg. This way, you have long and short trousers in one.
