Primaloft

Primaloft is a brand of high-quality synthetic insulation materials used in clothing, sleeping bags and other outdoor equipment. The material was originally developed in the 1980s for the US military as a synthetic alternative to down. A brief history of Primaloft

Primaloft originated in the 1980s, when the US military was looking for an alternative to down that would retain its insulating properties even when wet. The military wanted a material that would keep soldiers warm and dry in wet and cold conditions, as down loses its insulating properties when it gets wet.

After years of research and development, Albany International introduced Primaloft in 1988. The insulation material proved effective in providing warmth and water resistance, and it soon became popular in both military and commercial applications. Primaloft found its way into the outdoor and sportswear market, where it was used in jackets, sleeping bags, gloves and other equipment.

Since its launch, Primaloft has continued to evolve, with constant innovations and improvements in technology and manufacturing processes. The brand has expanded its range to include different degrees of insulation and specific products for a variety of conditions and applications.

The Primaloft Classics

Primaloft offers several series of insulation materials, each designed for specific applications and performance requirements. The Primaloft Classics consist of the Gold, Silver and Black series. You will find these in all kinds of jackets, gloves and other applications for about 20 years.

Primaloft - Gold

Primaloft Gold is the No. 1 of all Primaloft fibres, the best of the best and probably the standard within the world of synthetic insulation materials. More than 25 years of experience have gone into perfecting this material. It is not only extremely compressible, but also very lightweight and breathable, making it an excellent choice for more challenging outdoor activities.

Primaloft - Silver

Primaloft Silver is perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities. It is not only robust, but also breathable and compressible. Moreover, Primaloft Silver is soft and comfortable to wear.

Primaloft - Black

Primaloft Black is the simplest option of the different types of Primaloft insulation. It provides less warmth than its Gold and Silver variants, but retains Primaloft's core qualities.

Almost all Primaloft ranges also have an ECO variant. These variants consist overwhelmingly of recycled materials. Initially this was at least 60%, but now the ECO label guarantees Primaloft insulation consisting of 100% recycled materials.
