Loden is a textile from the Austrian company Steiner. Loden is made from 100 per cent natural wool. It is processed in as many as 40 elaborate steps. A yarn is spun from the wool, which is then woven into a woollen fabric. This is then washed so that it shrinks and a process called "Walken" in German is used. This refers to mashing it until the threads felt. This ultimately results in an extremely robust fabric with a very high density. Pure virgin wool from Austrian mountain sheep is always used for Loden. To improve the quality, fine wool from other animals can also be added.
Tencel is the brand name of Austrian company Lenzing under which they sell the natural synthetic fibre lyocell. Lyocell is made from wood pulp derived from eucalyptus trees. Tencel clothing has the positive properties of being soft to the touch, very breathable, very quick-drying and odour-neutralising.
